LECTURE BY PROFESSOR YUJI IWASAWA

On 30 May 2016 Athens PIL hosted Professor Yuji Iwasawa, Vice-Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Professor Iwasawa delivered a lecture on “The Work of the UN Human Rights Committee: Recent Developments”.

Professor Iwasawa is a Professor of International Law at the University of Tokyo Faculty of Law in Japan. He was on sabbatical leave in Paris as a chercheur invité au Centre de recherche sur les droits de l'homme et le droit humanitaire de l'Université Panthéon Assas (2015-2016). Moreover, he is an Associé de l'Institut de droit international. Formerly, he was counsel for Japan in the Whaling in the Antarctic case before the International Court of Justice, Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank Administrative Tribunal (Manila), and member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
