Professor Yuji IWASAWA is Professor of International Law at the University of Tokyo Faculty of Law in Japan.  He is now on sabbatical leave in Paris as a chercheur invité au Centre de recherche sur les droits de l'homme et le droit humanitaire de l'Université Panthéon Assas.  Currently, he is a Vice-Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (formerly a Chairperson), and an Associé de l'Institut de droit international.  Formerly, he was counsel for Japan in the Whaling in the Antarctic case before the International Court of Justice, the Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank Administrative Tribunal (Manila), and a member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
