ILA COMMITTEE ON COMPLEMENTARITY IN INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW - PARTICIPATION OF DR. MICHA

80th BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL LAW CONFERENCE

(19-24 JUNE 2022, Lisbon, Portugal)

ILA COMMITTEE ON COMPLEMENTARITY IN INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL LAW

On 23 June 2022 during the 80th Biennial International Law Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, the International Law Association adopted the Final Report and Recommendations of the ILA Committee on positive complementarity in international criminal law (You can find the Report and the Committee’s Recommendations here and here). Following its renewed mandate in 2016, the Committee, chaired by Professor Mia Swart and Special Rapporteur Dr. Sarah Nouwen, examined the obstacles to initiate investigations and other accountability processes at the domestic level for crimes within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and the ways a ‘positive complementarity’ principle could overcome these obstacles as well as the actors who could implement such policy.

It is a great pleasure to announce that Dr. Eleni Micha, member of the Athens PIL, contributed to the work of the ILA Committee as one of its regular members representing the Hellenic Branch of ILA along with Dr. Maria Pichou, as alternate member. Dr. Micha joined the Committee in 2016 and actively participated in the meetings held by the Committee; she worked mainly upon the issue of “Lack of Independent Investigations” as an obstacle to positive complementarity and drafted the National Report on the scope of application of the Greek Criminal Law for crimes of an international character.

Warm congratulations!
